ICON geometric

Hi lovely Frands! For those who don’t know, “frand” is my endearing term for fans who become friends. It’s good to be back in my domain! After a few years of my old website being down, I’m happy to announce the launch of my new website, djicon.com v.6, on the 20th anniversary of me being DJ ICON… happy DJ birthday to me!  I never intended for it to take so long to build my new site, but sometimes life has other plans for me.

So here’s an update to what I’ve been up to since you last saw my ICONtact blog in 2013.  In 2014, I became a mommy to a beautiful baby boy, Xander. Since he was born extremely and unexpectedly early, I had to spend the better part of almost two months in the hospital with him. The day he was discharged from the NICU was the happiest day of my life, but we weren’t out of the woods yet; he still came home a fragile little thing. Needless to say, I took a step back from my music career and also put the rest of life on hold so I could devote myself to being a good Mom. But I knew I wasn’t finished with my musical journey yet — nor could I give up my identity, dreams and passions just because I became a parent — so in 2015, I slowly re-emerged from hibernation, started taking bookings and working on music again. Taking a break from the music industry after so many years of it being in the forefront of my life was actually a refreshing and positive experience; I realized that I had become quite jaded and stepping away gave me perspective on why I love dance music in the first place and the amazing community and culture it brings together. When I got back behind the decks, I felt the same thrill and enthusiasm as I did when I was first starting out two decades ago. Although I’ve slowed down a bit, I’m picking up momentum again and above all, happy and grateful everyday that I get to continue doing what I love and spreading my message of love and bass.

ICON & Deekline @ Breakfast of Champions 2016

I mentioned that I have been working on music again. Recently, I released a new 3-track EP with my longtime friend and legendary Breaks producer, Deekline, on his awesome Hot Cakes Label. I couldn’t be happier that the release has been doing so well and has steadily been climbing in the Beatport Top 10 Breaks charts. The release peaked at #2 on Breaks Releases and our original track ‘Hey DJ’, a personal favorite that includes a classic sample we all know and love, peaked at #3 on Breaks Tracks.

I started 2016 with a ton of determination that this is the year I am coming back full speed. In the first couple months, I already released new music, was featured in Dark Beauty Magazine and launched my new website. I have some awesome shows lined up in San Francisco, Miami, Los Angeles, New York, Seattle and Burning Man so far and will be sure to keep adding more shows. I can’t express how grateful I am for all of your support on my wild ‘iconic’ journey throughout the years and look forward to seeing you on a dancefloor in real life soon. I hope you enjoy my new website!

Yours Truly,
ICONnie
