Omigosh, has it been almost two months since I've sent out a newsletter? Sorry to be out of touch for so long, but if you follow me on Facebook and Twitter, then you've already been getting my announcements and non-sequitors. If not, then please follow ya girl (Facebook / Twitter)!

I've been slammed with so much this non-summer that I haven't had any time to play or even breathe, which is why I am so damn excited to go ((HOME)) to Black Rock City. That's right y'all, Burning Man is next week and since I am supposed to leave in 3 short days with next to nothing prepared, I wanted to announce my Burning Man 2010 schedule. True to the nature of the beast, all times are subject to change at any give moment because... well, it's Burning Man! At the risk of using this hippie cliche, I can't express enough how grateful I am to be a part of this amazing and beautiful community; I'm really looking forward to throwing down some insane music - Breaks, Electro, Dubstep - with all my friends on the playa. I can't wait to test out the monster tune of which my boy, Ground_Control, and I are almost finished!

Big thanx to all the awesome camps and sound stages that invited me to rock on their bad ass sound systems: Root Society, DISTRIKT, Janky Barge, Garage Mahal, Dusty Rhino/Flower Camp, BASSYX, Kostume Kult, Mal-Mart, Decadent Oasis and *especially* my family camp of four years, Opulent Temple. Can't wait to get dusty with all my friends from the bay to around the globe. Also, shout out to my first-timer homies Keith Mackenzie, Jen Lasher, Mjoogoo, Nick Thayer, Flipside and Mama Miche. We're gonna have an epic time for sure. 3-2-1-BLASTOFF! )'(

Have a safe burn everyone & I hope to see you shake it in the dust! xxx

Yours Truly,
ICONnie

Bass & Puppies: IndepenDance Day Edition

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Written by djicon Saturday, 03 July 2010 00:34

It's almost IndepenDance Day! The day America celebrates its freedom with a yearly feast of barbequed animal carcasses! Since I've denounced my carnivorous ways, I will enjoy some veggie burgers on the beach with my homies! More importantly, 4th of July is a good reason to get down to some dirty filthy BASS. I'm really looking forward to playing my first Serato set at Opel presents the Stanton Warriors at Mission Rock in San Francisco this Saturday. Considering the first time I ever played on CDJs, after playing vinyl for 10 years, was in front of a massive crowd at SF LoveFest, I can definitely throw myself into the deep end with this as well. I miss the feel of vinyl!

In this edition of BASS & Puppies, I am featuring my two favorite tunes at the moment because I couldn't choose just one. I've had these tracks on repeat for the last couple weeks and also had great crowd reaction when I played them out... and damn, do they sound amazing when LOUD. One is a Dubstep remix, the other is a Drum & Bass remix, both have beautiful female vocals (my favorite kind).

The first one is a Jakwob remix of a huge dance hit by Ellie Goulding "Starry Eyed". Jakwob's been putting out some wicked Dubstep releases but this one in particular made me a big fan. The original house mix is really good as well; her vocals and lyrics give me the chills every time... "Next thing, we're touching, you look at me, it's like you hit me with lightning." Check out the Jakwob remix below and keep reading for the next tune!

Ellie Goulding "Starry Eyed" (Jakwob Remix)

See? Wasn't that dope? Told ya :) This next one, a Sub Focus remix of Rusko's "Hold On" feat. Amber Coffman, is equally if not more awesome. It *literally* puts the BASS in Drum & Bass! Seems that everything Sub Focus touches turns to gold, both D&B and House. I must have heard this song about a hundred times and I'm still not sick of it, which is a really good sign. Again, I love the vox. I first rocked it at Burning Man Pre-Compression a couple weeks ago and it was an absolute murder (pic shown below)! Check it out:

And now for the puppies segment of todays rantings. Don't ask me why; I just love cute things. Cute furry things are even better. Also, this week it's not a puppy... but my f*cking adorable 3-legged kitten named Sookie Stackhouse Wong. <3

Have a happy and safe IndepenDance Day!

Yours Truly,
ICONnie

ICONtact: Happy IndepenDance! Stanton Warriors @ Mission Rock in SF this Saturday

Happy Canada Day to my Canadian peeps and Independence Day to my American peeps! It's happy time for all! Summer Equinox has come and gone; from now on, the days just get shorter - I know, depressing right? That means we have to make the most of the rest of Summer, and I plan to with all the fun parties and festivals coming up in my calendar. It's been so busy for me this year between gigs and designing that my friends haven't seen me in months, if only I could be a vampire and not need to sleep! There's only a couple months until Burning Man! So excited! I'm also excited to start playing with Serato Scratch Live after playing vinyl for ten years, then CDs for four... it's like a whole new dimension of DJing to explore.

4th of July Weekend is gonna be huge! This Saturday I'm playing at Opel presents the Stanton Warriors at Mission Rock in San Francisco with 4 rooms of beats until sunrise! I cannot wait for this totally awesome event... then have a chill beach day in Santa Cruz with my homies for the fireworks! Also, I'm trying out a new formula to my ICONtacts, since I don't have time to do them each week, I'm going to start foreshadowing my events the following week just in case: next weekend, I'm playing the Stilldream Collective 10 year anniversary up north in Laytonville, then Ten15 on Saturday night. Happy times indeed!

Lastly, just wanted to give a quick shout-out to Mind Melting Productions who brought me out to Fresno last Friday, and putting on a wicked event with the old school rave spirit! I shared a video on YouTube of the bumpin' dancefloor, check it out!

All info on this week's events are below and always on my website, hope to see you shake it on the dancefloor! xxx

ICONtact: Back from Europe & 3 Gigs this weekend!

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Written by djicon Thursday, 17 June 2010 23:29

YAY! I am back in your inbox and more importantly, back from Europe. I haven't made ICONtact in a very long while because I've been away and super busy with gigs, work, fun, drama which all falls into the all-encompassing umbrella of LIFE. As you may know, I was just in Europe for three weeks playing shows, playing on pirate radio, catching up with friends, having fun, hanging out with sheep in the countryside, getting more stamps in my passport and watching England play USA in the World Cup in a country that's obsessed with football. And now for a quick gig review: Good times playing at Fabric with Ali B, Meat Katie and Dylan Rhymes; fun 80's pop, freestyle, hip-hop and rock set at Ali B's funk night at Paradise; wicked tag-team Breaks, Electro, House, Dubstep & Drum & Bass set with my boy Deekline on FlexFM pirate radio, top time in Ulm, Germany having my first Ger-merican BBQ & playing at Cut & Run with some of my new fave promoters Bastian, Rolf and Berndt. Laughs all night!; lastly amazing way to end the tour in Ravensburg, Germany playing at STAMINA for top guy, Marten Hoerger (Boogie Army). It was a beautiful summer day, perfect for boat ride at Lake Constance with Rosé wine, fresh strawberries & ice cream! Yes, fun times indeed.

It's good to be home! It seems as Summer is defninitely in the building! I have loads of super fun upcoming parties and festivals to rock. I just flew in on Sunday (and boy are my arms tired) on a gorgeous day in San Francisco and went straight to Mission Rock to play the 2nd Sunday Season Opener, which was rammed; it felt like the wooden deck was going to collapse into the bay with so many people bouncing on it! Then starting tonight I have a 3-day marathon of quality gigs in San Francisco. TONIGHT I am playing with DEEKLINE at Triple Crown for Sunset Promotions, Friday I play with ICEY at Ruby Skye, then Saturday I play at the 2010 Mega Pre-Compression for Burning Man. FIRE it up! All info on parties are below...

Lastly, I would like to announce the winner of my very first ICONtest on Facebook. Lots of people entered really fun photos of their favorite party moment for a chance to win a pair of Pioneer HDJ-2000 headphones and a DJ ICON custom t-shirt designed by Sam Flores. Congratulations to the winner, Cameron Brooks aka Tinman PDX, peep the photo!

Hope to see your smiling face on the dancefloor! xxx

Yours Truly,
ICONnie

P.S. It appears that my mailing list server sent several messages out at the same time, I apologize for those who are subscribed to the ICONtact list :(
